Applications are now open for Year 10 & 11 students.

The Young Leaders Program is offered in the Southern Grampians Shire and is offered to Year 10 and Year 11 students or equivalent. The program runs from April until October and students take part in a variety of events, program activities and online sessions/workshops.

It provides an amazing opportunity for youth in our community to participate in activities that increase confidence, build transferable skills, knowledge and leadership capabilities and introduces students to different career opportunities within the region. The program introduces students to different industries, allows opportunities for networking and challenges the way they think about the world of work. The program is helping to create a potential workforce and also helping to build the social capacity of our community.

Are you a Moyne or southwest based emerging artist looking to advance your music career but not sure where to start? The Moyne sessions Pop-Up Recording Studio program is for you! 

The Moyne sessions Pop-Up Recording Studio program works with young artists in the production and promotion of their original music.

Each Pop-Up artist receives:

  • Professionally produced tracks;

  • A video clip of a tune;

  • and access to written feedback from program partners Universal Music Group Australia.

Prior to recording you'll be linked with award winning producer, Cameron Deyell, best known for working with Sia on her Grammy-nominated platinum selling album, This Is Acting for an intensive songwriting workshop and a one-one song polishing workshop.

Following the program you'll be connected to more local performance and development opportunities to showcase and kick start your career. 

The Moyne sessions Pop-Up Recording Studio program is free and available to artists under 25!

Song Writing Intensive with Cameron Deyell 

Join Cam Deyell (Sia/Missy Higgins/Liars/Lior) for a two-day interactive song writing intensive!

This 2 day course will take you through the fundamentals of writing songs that connect - no matter if you're just starting your song writing journey or well on the way. From the initial note of a song through to the finished product, Cam breaks down his process, motivation, decision reasoning and meeting a writing brief!
Basic theory backed up with real-world applications of writing for yourself and with other artists, Cam's insights and decades of working at the top of the creative processes are drawn together and presented in plain speaking and demonstration, with the opportunity for discussion and lots of questions! So, if you're starting your writing journey, or a seasoned professional that wants a refresh, then don't miss this intensive workshop with one of Australia's finest song writers!

Kick off summer this year in the picturesque Botanic Gardens with The Better Together Festival!

Our day-night festival is a family friendly fundraiser withs kid's play zone, food & drinks and live music to take us into the evening. 

All funds raised at The Better Together Festival will help see all abilities equipment installed at the Lakes Edge Adventure Playground, because we feel strongly that all children deserve to play side by side.

Former Hamilton girl and dual Olympic and Paralympic table tennis player, Milly Tapper is our proud ambassador and festival MC.

Starting at 3pm, ours kid's zone has a range of activites to keep the young ones entertained, including:

The Jam - Music event!

The Jam will feature the incredible up and coming Indi Rock Band “The Velvet Club”. Local emerging young bands will entertain and rock the audience as they showcase their skills and talents to the crowd whilst gaining confidence and performance experience. 

Forming in 2018 in Melbourne/Naarm, The Velvet Club five-piece consisting of AJ, Sam, Tom, Dos and Macca have taken their emphatic live show from backyards to playing support for the likes of Great Gable, Eskimo Joe, Dulcie, Pacific Avenue and Death by Denim. 

Writing radiant indie-rock songs about navigating life through their 20’s to the tune of a driving rhythm section and lead hooks throughout, The Velvet Club are primed for the stage. With their unforgettable stage presence, the five-piece have recently returned from their latest adventure – an epic national tour which saw them sharing the stage with The Rions, Great Gable, DICE, Sophisticated Dingo (co-headline) and more, enthralling audiences across Australia. 

The Jam is organized by young people for young people. All ages are welcome, with the event particularly targeted to 14 – 25 year olds. Ages 16 and under will require an adult chaperone to attend and provide transport directly to and from the venue.  

The event will be supervised and is strictly drug, alcohol and smoke/vape free, with no pass-outs. It is made possible through the Victorian Government Freeza Program, the Southern Grampians Shire Council, local sponsors and the talented young volunteers involved in ‘Jam – Youth Music Events’. 

Access & Inclusion: This is a COVIDsafe, accessible and inclusive event taking place on Gunditjmara Country. If you need assistance at the venue, please let us know when booking your ticket or contact us directly.

Youth Mental Health First Aid course - Hamilton 18-25

The course equips adults with the skills to recognise and respond to an adolescent who may be experiencing a mental health problem or crisis situation. Using a practical, evidence-based action plan, Youth MHFA teaches participants how to support an adolescent until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves.

* Gain an understanding of the latest research in the mental health field
* Learn the 3 key actions for helping someone feeling suicidal
* Work through complex mental health first aid interactions
* Practice mental health first aid skills.
* This course is specifically tailored for 18–25-year-olds

This course will require participants to attend both full day sessions 9am -5pm.

A light lunch will be provided.

Coming to Pedrina Park on Sunday the 29th of October is the South West Community Festival!

A free community event the whole family can enjoy, brought to you by South West Sport and Southern Grampians Shire Council.

With come-and-try activities on offer from a range of local sporting clubs including football, netball, croquet, pickleball, soccer, hockey, and cricket, as well as the Kelly Sports Activity Zone, a BBQ, Coffee Van, and Facepainting there is something to keep everyone entertained.
